  • Idk, I don't think he was being an asshole. His original comment was a pretty mild statement of opinion, he clearly knows what he's talking about, and the first piece was a bit muddy even to untrained ears. I would not even pretend I could play this piece better (I don't play the piano at all), and I would be proud to play it even as well as the first guy. But for people who strive for excellence in what they do, "that ain't it" needs to be said sometimes. In fields that interest me, I would rather be told when I'm just middle-ground than have smoke blown up my ass.

  • Here's at least a little clarification as to why it was mediocre: runs on the right hand dropped out quite a bit, as the original poster was taking it at a tempo that was too fast for them. Had they practiced at a slow tempo with a metronome and really worked on building it up to a faster one, it would've been a different story.

  • Great video and I generally agree. Just a couple of quick notes. 1. In terms of the “just asking a question”. I respectfully disagree on that. Asking rhetorical questions to hype something is a common and annoying behavior so I have mad respect for people who step in and answer when they shouldn’t in order to properly shame this trend. 2. In terms of real life and interacting with people based on reputation you are 100% correct. But by virtue of you making this video it seems you’re supporting the opposite of your own position. This man played this situation perfectly. ON THE INTERNET. Reputation means little here. Indeed you can count myself among the people who would not even been made aware of this situation except due to the way the guy set things up. 3. As a side note the early days Reddit, a place that attracted humans with specialty talents and skill to talk in a non politically tainted environment was a great place for situations similar to this one. m.ltsoft.info/down/xoiql2OXpabYsNA/vaizdo-ra-as

  • The individual who posted the original ,"mediocre" rendition I'm pretty sure was a girl not a guy...just look at her fingers, the nails and her bone structure. Fanchen is very talented but seems to feel he isn't respected or well known enough. In my opinion the noble thing for Fachen to have done was to offer selfless constructive criticism to the "mediocre" player. In so doing it would have set the tone for a much healthier discussion. In listening to Fanchen give his experience and talented counsel it's likely someone would have requested his rendition of the piece. "..wisdom is heard more in quiet than the cry of him who ruleth among fools..." Proverbs A peaceable discussion is far better than a raucous argument.

Everybody pretending to be supportive and shit are actually the selfish ones, they know that being nice will get their comments liked. Of course that isn't always the case but it is often. You learn more from the people who judge without caring about emotions and feelings. Besides all that, people just need more controversy in their lives anyway, living in safe spaces all the time just makes us weak. People are allowed to say mean things, big deal. The alternative is a world where everything is censored....kinda seems familiar

I started to make fun of his skills (obviously as a joke, my friends and I joke around a lot) then some of his friends came along and started saying “ shut up I bet you’re not even good” and started saying stuff like that so I pretty much just played through the fire in the flames in front of them and they just left. • I honestly can't tell why the bad guy's is supposed to be so much better. He's good, but idk why he thinks it's definitively better than the other kid in any real noticeable way. I'm not a pianist but I was first chair flute in highschool so I'm not totally ignorant about music. On top of that, it took months for him to arrange and "polish" his performance, which further takes away from his point of being an asshat. It's not in any way impressive to outperform someone three months later, it's just sad an petty because the reality is, WHEN HE WAS ACTUALLY TALKING SHIT HE COULD NOT PLAY THIS SONG. Therefore, when he was actually talking shit, he was inferior to the other pianist in terms of ability to play that song. Imagine a competition and someone declares they'll win first place, but you have to wait 3 extra months and no one else will be allowed to perform then except him. If the original guy in the video had dedicated his life to polishing, he'd certainly be better at that one song than the bully, but only the bully had such a desperate need for approval that he actually did that. The original kid probably moved on to other projects. Would you rather hang out with a pianist who can play tons of impressive songs, or a pianist who can play one impressive song really, really precisely? The answers obvious, but even if the roles were reversed, no one would wanna hang out with that egotist anyway. The bully may be talented, but this whole display is a clear sign that he is terribly insecure and takes out his own childish issues on other members of the community, the dominant of which being an unattainable and desperate desire to feel superior, which is not uncommon in the musically talented (just being real).

    Zachary ConferZachary ConferPrieš 6 val
  • I mean are you not allowed to be arrogance with your own skill?

    Matheus EdwinMatheus EdwinPrieš 6 val
  • And again after 6 more seconds of the video, I will add that if you are skilled but an asshole yea most people won't respect your skill because they are lazy fuckers but the people that recognize skill will never be put off by a bad attitude. You should ALWAYS respect skill no matter how much of an asshole the guy or girl is. If they have that amount of skill they deserve to act however they want. If you can beat them then you can talk all you want how they are shitheads and so on.

    DDPrieš 7 val
    • Wait are you joking?

      Jay DubelyewJay DubelyewPrieš 6 val
  • You are totally wrong, if you are talented it's ok to be an asshole you deserve it, and believe me what you call "talent" is years and years and failures after failures to get to this point. If this guy is this good he deserves to shit-talk and you cant say a thing because he put more effort into playing this piece than you have put in your entire life so let him shittalk all he wants its all good.

    DDPrieš 7 val
  • How do you hate to see that? That is awesome, imagine having the talent to back off all your shit talk, that was awesome. Kudos to the guy that actually put more effort into playing this song. He deserves to talk shit.

    DDPrieš 7 val
    • Eh, his hard work is cool but everyone starts somewhere. It can be a bit discouraging to have someone call you mediocre without any proper constructive criticism.

      Jay DubelyewJay DubelyewPrieš 6 val
  • Also, the first pianist would benefit from a tuning. That alone can help the overall sound of a performance, regardless of technique. That being said, the 2nd pianist has training and most likely keeps up with some sort of practicing from time to time. His posture was good, the way he uses his full body for notes versus just the wrists promotes healthier playing and longevity, and his use of various accents (such as staccato) really drive home the musicality of his arrangement. That being said, I agree 100% that attitude can make it harder for people to work with you. If you're too difficult to work with, eventually, many (not all) will choose a more humble musician with room to grow. This permeates many occupations, not just music.

  • You overdramatized calling him a bully. He wasn’t overly harsh or mean for no reason, some asked why there were dislikes, and as someone who knows why, he said because the performance was mediocre. When you’re good at a craft whatever that may be, you can spot the difference between eww, blah, decent, good, and excellent. So this guy was actually very polite about it and looks up peoples playing. You can call them an asshole if you want, but I would rather see honesty rather than fake praise. The phrase “if you have nothing nice to say don’t say it at all” does nothing to improve craft. It can help make people feel good, but is life only worth living if you’re overly self confident in something you’re not that good at?? I have never heard of this channel, but idk guy with long hair seems to have history with bullies and is projecting is own dislike toward “nice” people. I would rather see honest people. Everyone is too “nice” today and you don’t get to see their true intentions. It’s all fake… this “bully” seems real at least
